Congratulations to Cardinal Newman students
A star to A accounts for half of all grades awarded Cardinal Newman College

Results Day 2022

Cardinal Newman students are celebrating the best results ever as the return to exam-based results has signalled a return to huge successes for our students. These results have led to the College being named as the top performing College in the North West and the second highest performing College nationally, according to The Times league tables.

This year we have bucked the national trend with an overall A-Level pass rate of 100 per cent, and 77 per cent of students achieving grades A*-B at A-Level. The high grades that students have achieved this year have been unprecedented, with 84 per cent of students achieving at least one high grade (either an A*, A or B).

There have also been huge successes in individual subjects, with 62 per cent of Further Maths students achieving A* as well as over a third of A-Level Maths students achieving the same grade.

Our BTEC results were also something to shout about, with 82.5 per cent achieving high grades.

The results come on the back of over two years of uncertainty for students but are a testament to the hard work of not just the students but the staff and the College as a whole. Throughout the pandemic, our staff worked tirelessly, balancing their own families and commitments to ensure that our students always received the very best teaching and support. We couldn’t be prouder of the whole Newman community.

Cardinal Newman Principal Nick Burnham said: “It’s important to us that our students feel happy, supported and are enjoying their studies. If they are happy and enjoying their work, they will achieve much better grades as a result. And this has been demonstrated by our best-ever set of results.”

It is this motto that the College lives by, with a whole range of additional opportunities available to our students. This includes a fantastic pastoral programme, delivered by our Achievement Tutors, the HE* Programme, designed to stretch and challenge our most able students and help them achieve their aspirations. We also have a fantastic range of support systems in place, from our counselling team to the Equality and Diversity team and Health and Wellbeing team, all of whom are in place to ensure students have the skills they need to look after their well-being not just whilst they are at Newman, but for their whole lives.

We feel that it is this holistic approach that enables our students to fly and what has contributed to our best-ever set of results.
