A-Level and BTEC Results

Here at Cardinal Newman College we are celebrating another year of outstanding A-Level and BTEC results. This years’ A-Level results were released today and they showed that the College’s students had once again achieved an outstanding set of grades.

Our  A-Level pass rate was 100 per cent, with four in five students achieving A*-B. Our BTEC results were also something to shout about, with 82.5 per cent of students achieving Distinction*-Distinction.

These results are the icing on the cake for the College, which was named as the second  Highest Performing College Nationally and top locally, based on value added. This is a measure that we have consistently excelled in, being top or amongst the top performing Sixth Form Colleges each year. For us this is the best measure of a College’s performance, as it measures the progress a student makes during their time at College. It looks at the GCSE results a student arrives with and compares it to the BTEC or A-Level results they leave with and measures the distance travelled, giving a real indication of the impact a College has had on their students’ education. It is by this measure that Cardinal Newman really stands out, with 3 out of 4 students achieving higher grades than other Colleges. Cardinal Newman Principal Nick Burnham said: “It’s important to us that our students feel happy, supported and are enjoying their studies. If they are happy and enjoying their work, they will achieve much better grades as a result.” It is this motto that the college lives by with a whole range of additional opportunities available to our students. This includes a fantastic pastoral programme, delivered by our Achievement Tutors and the Newman Aspire Programme, which aims to boost confidence and develop personal skills, promoting a greater sense of belonging. It also endeavours to give students the skills they need to look after their well being not just whilst they are at Newman, but for their whole lives.
