The BA (Hons) Top Up Degree curriculum is designed for people who are working with and supporting children in education or social context and or children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Curriculum design and delivery of this course is ideal for students who have achieved a merit or distinction classification at level 5, of a qualification that has relevance to this Top Up, such as FdA Early Years and Leadership, FdA Early Years Studies, FdA Early Childhood and Education, FdA Children and Young People and FdA Education in Professional Practice in Early Years 0-8.
This BA (Hons) is designed for practitioners who want to complete a degree to improve their practice and/or increase their employment opportunities but wish to, or need to, remain in paid employment or as a volunteer. Students are expected to have at least two years’ experience working with children and be in practice with children in an educational or social context alongside level 6 study, for at least one day each week for the duration of the course.
Students do require a clear DBS Disclosure and Barring Service - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) an essential requirement of people who work with children. All applicants must complete an interest form and attend an interview prior to enrolling. Students who achieved a pass classification at level 5 are required to attend a further meeting to discuss specific academic and practical support advice and guidance.

To study at level 6 you must have achieved a Level 5 qualification within the last five years, achieving 240 credits. As this is a work related Top Up where all learning, teaching and assessment is related to practice you should be working or volunteering with children and / or families in an educational or social context for at least one day a week.
The course fees will be £6,185 and tuition fee loans are available for this course, plus other maintenance loans depending on individual eligibility.
Fees for consequent academic years will be published on the website March each year, and will increase with annual costs, normally in line with inflation.

The course will take place every Thursday, term time only for 33 weeks, from 1pm – 6.30pm. Level 6 students will also meet with their disseration supervisors for tutorials on Thursday mornings or at an alternative day/time to fit in with student’s other commitment.
