At Cardinal Newman College, we offer a wide range of Level 3 qualifications for school leavers, including A-Level courses, BTEC courses, and T-Level courses in Preston. Our curriculum is designed to provide both academic and vocational pathways, helping students across Lancashire choose the route that best suits their ambitions.
In addition to Level 3 study, we also offer Level 2 BTEC qualifications in Business and Health and Social Care, as well as GCSE resits in Maths and English Language.
Our A-Level courses in Lancashire are primarily assessed through examinations, with some creative subjects including coursework elements. A-Levels provide a strong academic foundation and are well suited to students planning to progress to university.
Most students studying an A-Level programme will take the equivalent of three or four subjects.
BTEC Courses in Preston are more coursework-based, combining practical assessment, written assignments and some examinations. Many BTEC programmes also include opportunities for work experience, providing a more applied learning experience.
For programme planning:
Our T-Level courses in Lancashire are employer-focused qualifications that combine classroom learning with substantial industry placement. T-Levels are designed to prepare students directly for skilled employment, apprenticeships or higher education.
Choosing between A-Levels and BTEC programmes can feel like a big decision. However, students at Cardinal Newman have the opportunity to create a mixed programme, combining A-Levels with BTECs to build a broader and more flexible combination of qualifications.
This route can be particularly beneficial for students who want to keep their future options open.
For a BTEC or mixed programme, your overall combination should usually be equivalent to three A-Level subjects.
If you are unsure which route or subject combination is right for you, our admissions team are available to provide advice and guidance throughout the application process.
