Art Student

Royal Society of British Artists Rising Stars

Former Cardinal Newman Student Rachel Howarth was selected for the finals of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) Rising Stars competition.

Rachel, who studied A-Levels in Fine Art, English Literature and Maths, was selected by Kate Cartmell and the Young Arts team from the Arts Society Fylde, after they were drawn to her painting by “it’s charm, sensitivity and technical ability.”

Kate said: “We liked the concentrated expression that had been captured, it caught a private moment.”

Rachel’s work ‘Girl Seated with Book’ was displayed at The Royal Over-Seas League in central London between Friday 26 April – Sunday 19 June 2019. Rachel said: “I’ve never had my work exhibited before, so it gave me such a push to keep creating and to be confident that this is the right route for me.”

Rachel is now studying Fine Art and History of Art at the University of Edinburgh.
