What is RSL Level 3 Extended Certificate in the Creative Music Industry (Performance Pathway)?

The Extended Certificate in the Creative Music Industry is a well-rounded programme of study. It prepares you for many aspects of work within the music industry. It is the equivalent of 1 A-Level and you will focus on Performance, Composition, Musicianship and Professional Practice.

What Will You Study in BTEC Creative Music Industry?

The RSL Creative Music Industry course has a lot of Solo and Ensemble Performance. You will be working in bands regularly to compose and perform tracks from scratch in a range of different styles from Psychedelic Rock to Disco.

You will also explore stagecraft, what makes a successful performance and how to rehearse effectively in delivering professional-sounding Covers as a band in a range of styles from Britpop to Synthpop! As well as performance and composition, you will explore the development of your instrument over time, giving a presentation on the significance of your instrument both historically and culturally.

will analyse and write about a range of Rock & Pop genres from Rock ‘n’ Roll to Bubblegum Punk. You will also get to review concerts, interview current working professionals in the industry, learn about the world of Live Streaming and also prepare for employment within the Music Industry. There are no formal exams on this course, but you are assessed on everything that you do from written research to rehearsal and performances.

What are the Entry Requirements for BTEC Creative Music Industry?

At least five 4s at GCSE and a minimum of Grades 3-5 in Music and a 4 in English Language or Maths.

There is also no formal pre-audition or prerequisite for this course, but you will be expected to have a keen interest in a range of different musical styles, and you will need to demonstrate your ability to perform to a proficient level within the first week of the course.

What is the Course Type for Creative Music Industry?

This course is worth 1 A-Level equivalent and will be studied alongside 2 or 3 other subjects. It is a common option to combine this course with either the A-Level Music or the BTEC Music Production course.
