Music Performance BTEC - playing the piano

Mind the Gap

Two of our music performance students, Ethan White, who studies BTEC Music Performance and Edward Rhodes who studies RSL Creative Music Industry, took part in ‘Mind the Gap’, a workshop organised to help young people connect with those living with dementia.

During the workshop, they both performed music for the guests and tutored 1-1 sessions with those who were interested in playing an instrument for themselves. The workshop was designed to give young people a real-life work experience opportunity within ‘community music as therapy’, which will hopefully inform them of future careers in this area.

Ethan and Edward gave up their own time during the half-term break to take advantage of this opportunity and help some of the most vulnerable in our community. Both of them made an outstanding contribution to the project and their work was greatly appreciated by those who took part.

It is wonderful to see our students really embracing the Newman spirit and living out our values both inside and outside of College, well done Ethan and Edward.
