What is Lancaster University School of Mathematics?
Selecting from the most able 16 to 19-year-old students from across Lancashire, Lancaster University School of Mathematics, in association with Cardinal Newman College will act as a regional centre of excellence for delivering Mathematics teaching at A-Level.
It will attract students from all backgrounds, helping to raise aspirations, unlock potential and propel young people on their journey towards successful careers.
Students attending the school will benefit from an intellectually stimulating and challenging programme, developed in partnership with academics from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University.
All students will study A-Level Maths and Further Maths, with up to two other A-Levels and a wide, high-quality enrichment programme. LUSoM will provide high-quality resources, exceptional teaching, and stretching content, within a community where talented, like-minded and passionate young mathematicians in years 12 and 13 can thrive and excel.
Students who attend and successfully complete their studies at The Lancaster School of Mathematics will be guaranteed an offer to study at Lancaster University. They will benefit from the wide range of other courses on offer at Cardinal Newman College, ensuring a vibrant student body with a diverse range of interests.
The opening date will be confirmed soon, though the first cohort will start in September 2022 when a new building has been developed.
Where will it be located?
Lancaster School of Mathematics, will be located in Preston, near to the main campus of Cardinal Newman College on London Road.

Students will be selected on merit and adhere to the entry requirements of the maths school and then a process that transparently assesses mathematical aptitude and potential success for further study at undergraduate level.
