Outstanding Cyber Success Again

Cardinal Newman College is celebrating another year of exceptional success following provisional results from the exam board showing that every student enrolled on the College’s Cyber EPQ achieved either an A* or A grade for the second consecutive year.

The results mark a significant achievement for the College, particularly as student numbers on the programme doubled this year, demonstrating growing interest in cyber security and technology pathways among learners.

The Cyber EPQ, led by Head of Computer Science and Cyber, Chris Carberry, is a specialist qualification designed to prepare students for future careers in cyber security and technology. Sponsored and supported by organisations including National Cyber Force, IBM and GCHQ, the qualification is increasingly recognised by universities and employers as a valuable differentiator for applicants pursuing careers in the digital sector.

Chris Carberry said:

“We are absolutely delighted with this year’s results. To maintain a 100% A and A* success rate for a second consecutive year is a fantastic achievement in itself, but to do so while doubling the number of students on the course makes it even more special.

The Cyber EPQ continues to give students a real advantage when applying for university courses and careers in technology and cyber security, and we’re incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved.”

Unlike a traditional EPQ, the Cyber EPQ is specifically tailored towards cyber and technology careers, combining independent research with industry-relevant skills and employer engagement. The qualification runs for one hour per week from September to February during normal College hours and is worth half an A-Level qualification.

Students interested in careers in technology, computing or cyber security are encouraged to consider the Cyber EPQ as part of their studies at Cardinal Newman College.
