Doctor for a Day

Doctor for a Day

Here at Newman, budding Doctors, Dentists and Veterinarians have the opportunity to join the MedSoc, a society designed to give them the best possible chance of success when applying for one of these prestigious courses at university.

As part of this programme, our team were able to organise a special event called Doctor for a Day which took place in our simulation suite, here at College.

72 aspiring doctors, alongside a group of Health Sciences students, took part in the two-day event, which saw 12 medical students and their supervisors, carrying out a series of workshops, including x-rays, triaging patients and working with our very own in-house medical training mannequins.

This event formed part of the wider programme for MedSoc students, who receive a specialised programme throughout their time at College which includes support with personal statement writing, interview preparation and preparation for the additional entrance exams required for admission to medical degrees.

Head of MedSoc, Jon Avon said: “It was a brilliant event. Our students loved it and got loads from the experience, which will help them prepare for application to medicine.”
