21 Mile Challenge for Refugees

21 Mile Challenge for Refugees

In memory of a former member of staff, the College is encouraging the whole Cardinal Newman community to take part in a special challenge to raise funds for CAFOD.

Anthony Finnerty, was a much loved member of the college community from 1990 – 2008, when he worked as both the Head of RS and RE, as well as being heavily involved in the Chaplaincy department. Anthony embodied the ethos of the College and was a fabulous teacher who inspired staff and students alike.

The plight of refugees was a cause close to his heart, so in his memory we are encouraging staff and students alike to take part in a 21-mile challenge. Participants can choose to run, walk or cycle 21 miles (or multiples of 21) or even challenge themselves to do something 21 times, to raise money for CAFOD and their work in supporting refugees. 21 miles is the distance many refugees travel across the English Channel seeking safety on our shores.  Any money that is raised will be used to buy CAFOD world gifts, which support refugees with a range of gifts including emergency shelter, food and community water supplies. To find out more about CAFOD World Gifts, click here https://worldgifts.cafod.org.uk/

For more information about the challenge and how you can get involved or donate, please visit the just giving page here >> https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/newmanactive

Good luck to all of those taking part!
