T-Level Courses

T-Levels at Newman

T-Levels are one of the most recent educational developments for 16–19-year-olds and were introduced in England in 2020. As a two-year qualification, each T-Level is crafted in collaboration with employers and is equivalent to three A-Levels. The primary objective of these courses is to equip young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their future careers.

At Cardinal Newman College, students have the opportunity to explore various T-Level specialisms, each designed to cultivate the essential skills required in the modern workplace.

What are T-Levels?

T-Levels are an innovative qualification option available to students post-GCSE. Designed to combine academic study with practical experience, a T-Level is equivalent to three A-Levels and spans over two years.

This qualification is tailored to those keen to gain a deep understanding of a specific industry while acquiring hands-on experience.

How are T-Levels Structured?

The structure of T-Levels is primarily focused on classroom learning, constituting approximately 80% of the course. The remaining 20% is dedicated to practical experience through a 45-day placement in a relevant business or industry.

This placement is a key aspect of the T- Level programme, providing an opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world environment, an experience that is both enriching and insightful for career development.

What T-Level subjects are there?

As of 2024, there are over 20 T -Level subjects to pick from, covering everything from science to engineering, and catering to agriculture.

At Cardinal Newman College, we are proud to offer an array of T-Level courses, including:

  • Digital Cyber Security
  • Education and Early Years
  • Health
  • Management and Administration
  • Science

What Qualifications do I need to take T-Levels?

Although individual courses need to be checked, generally, students need at least two grade 5s and three grade 4s at GCSE with at least a 4 in Maths and English Language. Please refer to our Entry Criteria for individual courses.

How are T-Levels graded?

Upon successful completion of a T-Level, students are awarded an overall grade that ranges from pass to distinction*, reflecting their level of achievement.

Each student receives a nationally recognised certificate, which not only details their specific accomplishments throughout the course but also verifies that they have met the essential requirements in Maths and English qualifications.

What are the benefits of taking T-Levels?

There are a wide range of benefits that students can receive from taking T-Levels, such as:

  • High-quality industry placement that can be included on UCAS applications.
  • Opportunity to build connections and secure valuable references for future job prospects.
  • Develop high-quality technical skills
  • Gain valuable insights into your chosen industry, aiding in career decisions.
  • Receive individual support and personal development.

What are my options post T-Levels?

Upon completion of a T-Level, students have a range of options. They can pursue higher education at a university, explore alternative higher education routes, enter the workforce directly, embark on an apprenticeship, or continue the journey with the company where they completed their industry placement.

This flexibility makes T-Levels a comprehensive choice for those seeking a balance of academic rigour and practical industry exposure.
