What is BTEC Applied Science?

If you work best through practical investigation and enjoy learning about how things work. If you are interested in how science affects the world around you and how it is used in the workplace and industry. Then the Applied Science BTEC course may be the right choice for you.

By developing your knowledge in the three main disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics through the Applied Science course, you will gain a thorough understanding of scientific knowledge within a vocational context.

What Will You Study in Applied Science?

You will complete a range of units covering the fundamentals of Science, where you will study the basic building blocks of the three core Science disciplines – from chemical reactions to energy transfer. You will develop practical skills through multiple practical based units and carry out independent research tasks.

In the second year of the course, you will continue to develop your practical skills, whilst completing multiple units in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. This includes how the body works, medical physics and how to control chemical reactions.

What Next after Completing BTEC Applied Science?

The course will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills required to either enter employment as a Science Technician or to progress onto university to study science-related courses. The vast majority of Applied Science students gain careers in laboratory analysis, diagnostic radiography, chemistry, biomedical science, marine biology, physiotherapy, forensics, research, teaching or nursing.
