Medical Mavericks

Level 2 Health and Social Care students were treated to a fun-filled day of hands-on activities run by the Medical Mavericks Team.

A representative from Medical Mavericks joined us for the day to run hands-on sessions where they would be able to have a go at using medical equipment. After viewing demonstrations of the equipment, the groups were then able to rotate around and try them out for themselves. This included an ECG machine, where they could take and printout their own ECG readings, and a UV device that allows you to view where veins are positioned under the skin, there were also googles that mimicked a range of visual impairments and diseases so that they could see how this affects the patients. Particularly popular was “Andy’s Arm” a prosthetic arm that they could use to simulate taking blood from a patient!

The Medical Maverick Team have visited the college before, and aim to inspire students and get them excited about the range of careers available to them within the healthcare profession once they have completed their studies at Cardinal Newman.
