Initial Teacher Training Success Stories

Chelsea Shepherd began her Initial Teacher Training (ITT) with the Catholic Teaching Alliance (CTA) in September 2019, having completed her Health and Social Care Degree at Cardinal Newman. After working for six years in the Health and Social Care sector, followed by the role of a Teaching Assistant in an all age special school, she decided to make the transition to becoming a teacher herself. Becky Balshaw began her Initial Teacher Training with the Catholic Teaching Alliance in 2018, after working as an SEN Teaching Assistant at our Lady and St John Catholic High School. Seeing first hand the important work that teachers do and the impact that they can have on the lives of young people, encouraged Becky to pursue teaching as a career for herself. After completing a Masters in English Literature at Warwick University, Paul Hughes began his teaching career abroad, gaining a role Teaching English at a High School in Shanghai before deciding that he would like to pursue a career teaching in the UK. Having discovered the Initial Teacher Training Programme at Newman, he decided that this would be the perfect way to consolidate all of his experiences to enter the teaching profession in the UK. Katie Walsh started her Initial Teacher Training at Cardinal Newman in September 2018, having gained a variety of experiences within a teaching environment throughout her academic career, she decided that training to teach Geography, which is her passion, was the right career path for her.
