Teacher Training at Newman

The Catholic Teaching Alliance is a unique programme offering Initial Teacher Training to graduates looking to get into teaching. Founded by Our Lady’s Catholic High School in Fulwood in association with the University of Cumbria, students are able to spend the vast majority of their time in a school or college setting, with one placement at Cardinal Newman College and one at one of the high schools which make up the Catholic Teaching Alliance (CTA).

This is a unique opportunity for trainees to gain teaching practice in both 11-16 and 16 – 18 settings, increasing not only experiences, but also employability after completion.

There is also a new opportunity for students who want to train to become a PE teacher, with the PE with EBacc scheme. This allows ITT providers and lead schools to request additional PE places which allow trainees to train and qualify in an EBacc subject in addition to their main specialism of PE. This also increases their employability as they are able to teach in two core curriculum subjects. For more information about this scheme, click here.
