Student Isaac Selected for Team GB Again!

Newman student Isaac Towers has been selected to represent team GB again in next month’s World Para Athletics Championships in London.

Isaac, who has just completed his BTEC Extended Diploma in Business Studies at Cardinal Newman, will be competing in both the T34 400m and 800m at the Championships.

Isaac has previously competed at the 2016 European Championships in Grosseto, Italy, where he achieved a Gold in the T34 800m and Silver for the 400m. He followed this up by travelling with Team GB to Rio, to compete in the Paralympics!

Isaac is one of just 49 athletes who will be representing team GB at the event, which takes place at the London Stadium from 14th – 23rd July and will be one of the youngest athletes representing the Great British squad.

Isaac said: “I now have around five weeks to prepare. I have just got back from Switzerland, competing against the same athletes I will face in London, and I got a personal best in the 800m, so I feel I’m good to go.”

“I am not going to make any predictions by saying I am going to win a medal, but I feel I can be in contention for one. Obviously that is what you go for when you take part in a championship, everyone is going all out to win.”

As he has now completed his studies at Newman, Isaac is free to dedicate all of his efforts to his training and preparation for the Championships, before hopefully taking up a place at Loughborough University to study Management Sciences. We wish Isaac the best of luck with the competition, everyone at Newman will be cheering him on!
