Sports Career Day
Our Sport Department have arranged a fantastic Careers Day for our students who are interested in pursuing a sports related career after College.
Throughout the day we have had a range of guest speakers delivering sessions to students from a variety of professions, to give them an insight into where their PE or Sport qualification can take them.
The professionals involved included Personal Trainer Dale Wallace, who runs his own PT company after going straight into work after College, Physiotherapist, Mark Leather, who runs his own company after having worked for the NHS and a variety of football clubs including Liverpool, Preston and Brighton, as well as Kate Youngman, who works in Sports Development for Preston City Council, creating links between clubs, schools and the community.
We were also lucky enough to have Jo Davidson from University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) along to talk about the degree courses they offer in Football Business and Event Industries as well as a number of representatives from UCLan, including sports Journalists Gerrie Byrne and Steve Canavan who, as well as careers within Sports Journalism for the likes of the BBC and ITV, also teach at UCLan, and Performance Analysis and Elite Coaching Practice Lecturer Craig Wright.
Two representatives from Nuffield Health offered a fantastic session, lead by Greg Davenport, fitness coach and manager of Nuffield Health in Preston and Jess Mayers, a former Newman student who started work at Nuffield Health on work experience and has worked her way up to duty manager of the Preston branch.
We were delighted to be joined remotely by Amanda Gatherer, a Clinical Sports Psychologist who works with elite athletes. She was only able to join remotely as she is about to fly out to Beijing for the 2022 Winter Paralympics.
The day was a fantastic success with students really gaining lots of valuable insight into the variety of careers available, but also the different routes taken. A huge thank you to all involved!
