All Performing Arts courses at Newman are challenging, creative and fun. We will train you as a performer and enable you to pursue a career in Performing Arts. The Extended Diploma and Diploma will develop and improve your acting, dance and singing skills, and you will use these to create a wide range of original and innovative performance material.
You will take part in spectacular shows, where you will perform in our modern Newman Theatre and out in the community. You will learn about how to work as a professional performer and gain a wide range of knowledge about the Performing Arts industry. It is ideal if you are an aspiring performer.
The number of units you study will depend on which course you choose to study. If you study the Extended Diploma you will take 13 units, the Diploma eight units and for each of the Extended Certificates you will study four units.
You will study a number of mandatory units which include Investigating Practitioners Work, Developing Skills and Techniques
for Live Performance, Group Performance Workshop, Performing Arts in the Community, Individual Performance Commission and Final Live Performance to an Audience for the Diploma. If you choose the Extended Diploma, in addition to all of the above, you will also study Employment Opportunities in the Performing Arts.
You will also have the opportunity to choose from further units of study, which include Jazz Dance, Street Dance, Screen Acting, Improvisation, Musical Theatre Performance, Storytelling, Acting Styles and Physical Theatre Performance.
For the Extended Certificates you will study three mandatory units which are Investigating Practitioners Work, Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance and Group Performance Workshop as well as choosing an additional unit that is relevant to your chosen specialism, such as Jazz Dance or Acting Styles.
Upon completion of the course, many of our students progress onto further qualifications at conservatoires and drama schools, such as Trinity Laban, LIPA, Mountview or Guildford School of Music and Drama, or to studying Performing Arts at degree level
Should you wish to progress directly into employment, you will be able to contribute your high level of communication, teamwork, problem solving, communicating, self-presentation, self-management and adaptability skills, which are invaluable to employers. We have a large number of students working as professional actors and dancers ranging from cruise ship performers to television presenters, as well as in a range of non-performance related careers for example, teachers, nurses and fashion designers
At least five 4s at GCSE, including at least a grade 4 in GCSE English Language.
