Presenting ’21’ at U Dance
Our Dance Academy, Newmanoeuvres, have been selected to perform at the prestigious dance festival U.Dance 2022.
The annual festival, which takes place at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester, celebrates some of the finest youth dance companies from across the North-West. It acts as a selection event for the National Youth Dance Festival U.Dance and showcases young peopleβs choreography and performances.
This year our students will be presenting β21β, a powerful piece about the plight of Refugees; through their journey of terror, escape, separation and eventually rebuilding hope for the future.
The name 21 represents the 21 miles it takes to cross the English Channel, which is a harrowing journey for many. This dance is dedicated to Anthony Finnerty, a former teacher at Cardinal Newman College, who dedicated himself to campaigning for refugees and sadly passed away last year.
Dance Academy raised Β£65 for Carry the Light For Anthony CAFOD charity in November, when this piece was first performed and they continue to fundraise and raise awareness.
