Performing Arts Celebrate Armed Forces Day

BTEC Performing Arts students from Cardinal Newman took part in the celebrations for Armed Forces Day over the weekend in Preston city centre. The celebrations took place at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, where our students performed a medley of songs, dances and monologues from the second world to the delight of the patrons and staff at the Harris.

The medley included such old favourites as ‘Boogie, Woogie Bugle Boy’ and ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’. Some of the comments from the audiences included: “absolutely brilliant, they look and sound so authentic; it really took me back” and “what a lovely way for young people to learn about that whole period – through the songs and drama.”

It was a great chance for our Performing Arts students to perform to the outside of college at a public event and also an excellent chance for us to support the wider community by getting involved in a community event. The students loved the opportunity to engage with the audience and perform in the round at the Harris.

Well done to all involved!
