Oxbridge Offers 2023
There has been good news for 13 Cardinal Newman College students, as they have gained offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Each year around 80 Cardinal Newman College students apply to these world-class universities and the College provides a thorough and supportive programme for all competitive applicants. Students (and parents) are given clear guidance on how to decide between Oxford and Cambridge, the range of different subjects and the different colleges they can apply to.
In addition, Oxbridge applicants are placed in special Oxbridge tutor groups at the beginning of year 13 where they receive specific tuition on writing their personal statement, how to prepare for any pre-interview tests and a detailed explanation of the interview process. For those students who also need to sit a pre-interview test, there are practice test sessions under exam-style conditions to help prepare them.
Each applicant will also have practice interviews and will receive feedback on their performance so that they can improve for the real thing. Students will also have the benefit of help from subject teachers with lots of experience in preparing students for Oxford and Cambridge.
Former Newman students, currently studying at Oxford and Cambridge, act as mentors for our aspiring applicants. They talk about their own experience of applying and pass on the benefits of what they have learned. They continue to advise and support our students by email and answer any questions they have about courses, colleges and the application process. They also provide practice interviews for our students modelled on the real thing.
In recent years we have taken students to Oxford and Cambridge for the summer open days and hope to do so again when Oxford and Cambridge make this available once more.
This year the students have had a range of offers including Architecture, Medicine, Music and Greek and Linguistics
Over the past 7 years over 100 students from Cardinal Newman College have been offered places to study at Oxford or Cambridge, a testament to their hard work and the success of our programme!
