By its very nature, the BTEC Sport course is ‘hands-on’ in its approach. It will provide you with a solid understanding in theory, before training you in the practical elements of working in the industry.
As part of the BTEC sport course you will study a combination of more theoretical units such as Anatomy & Physiology and more practical units such as Sports Coaching and Leadership.
You will also have the opportunity to study Sports Massage, which, together with the Sports Injuries unit, is fantastic for progression into careers such as Sports Therapy or rehab. Your assessments will vary from unit to unit; some will be externally assessed with an exam, but a lot of the course is coursework-based.
BTEC Sport is a vocational course which means it is designed to prepare you for a career in the sports industry, or to prepare you for further study at university. Students who have completed the BTEC Sport course have gone to university to study degrees in Teaching, Sports Science, Coaching, Sports Therapy and Leisure Management, to name just a few. If you decide not to go to university, the BTEC course provides employment routes into a number of areas such as the Sport and Leisure Industry and other health fields. Some students have gone on to careers in the Police and Armed Forces.
