RE at Newman

Cardinal Newman is a Roman Catholic Sixth Form College, in Preston Lancashire, with a rich diversity of religious traditions. Our Religious Education (RE) programme is fundamental to the education we seek to provide all our students.

Who Cares?

We do! Our Chaplaincy Team helps to promote community and reminds us of the community’s wider responsibilities to create a more just society.

Don’t Just Sit There!

There is always plenty to do! You can get involved in charity work, Newman Day, student groups, Soup Day, SVP, CAFOD, Fairtrade events, retreats, trips, Lourdes pilgrimages, student mentoring…and much, much more! Cardinal Newman said: “To live is to change” and there is a world that needs changing – we can help you do your part.

Everyone Does It!

Our RE programme aims to encourage the formation of the whole person and seeks to be inclusive, challenging and affirming to all, irrespective of faith or perspectives. Through reflection, discussion, simulation games, trips, meditation, personal time, music, art and prayer, we foster a community based on respect and trust where everyone feels valued.

Students discuss the wider issues in life. They look at the big questions, spiritual development and how they relate to their internal and external worlds. There is no exam in this course and here’s what some of our students say…

“I have enjoyed RE and I will really miss it when we leave. It is relaxed and fun but you learn loads. The teachers are really enthusiastic about their subject and it makes it easy to participate in, plus they treat us as equals.”

“I love every single minute of our RE lessons.”

“RE was great – it gave me an insight into aspects of the world around me.”
