What is Drama and Theatre Studies A-Level?

Drama & Theatre Studies A-Level looks at the practices and theories of classical and contemporary playwrights, directors and practitioners of drama.

The course aims to develop an awareness of a range of theatre notables through the observation and analysis of existing and emerging performance work, and practical exploration of texts and practitioner techniques.

The course encourages a critical and creative response to the complexities of theatre from the perspectives of actor, designer and director.

What Next?

There are a variety of options open to you if you have studied Drama & Theatre Studies at Newman. Some of our past students have gone on to study degrees in Law, Acting, Theatre Studies, Psychology, English and Creative Writing to name just a few.

Entry Requirements for Drama and Theatre Studies A-Level

At least five 5s at GCSE,  including at least a 6 in English Language or English Literature.

Have you considered studying a Mixed Programme (A-Levels and BTECs)? Whether you’re on target to achieve five 5s in your GCSEs or not, there may still be an option to study A-Levels alongside a BTEC qualification at Newman.
