National Exhibition for Former Art Student
Former Cardinal Newman student Martha Walmsley has won the prestigious Arts Society RBA Star Student 2018. Currently in her first year of studying Textiles in Practice at Manchester Metropolitan University, Martha’s work will now be exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London.
Martha, who achieved a triple Distinction in her BTEC Art & Design previously attended Ripley St Thomas in Lancaster, before joining Newman in 2015.
The wall hanging that Martha created as part of her BTEC Art & Design work at Newman has now been selected for an exhibition at the Royal Over-Seas League, St James, London between 23rd January and 8th March and then at the RBA’s annual show at the Mall Galleries from 12th – 17th March.
The piece was her final major project at College and reflects her keen interest in surface pattern, embroidery and printed textiles in a series of lino prints, which Martha has embellished with machine embroidery.
