Local Candidates to Get a Grilling Ahead of the General Election

This week Cardinal Newman College is looking forward to welcoming candidates from across the spectrum of political parties, in the run up to the General Election.

Hosted by our award-winning Students’ Union, candidates from five of the main political parties, including Labour, Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, UKIP and the Green Party will take to the stage in a Q & A style session with staff and students at the College.

Every day this week a different candidate will attend to talk about their party’s policies and their plans for the future, should they be elected. We feel it is really important that our students take an interest in politics and register to vote so they can have a say in shaping their own future. The aim is that students will get to hear what all of the candidates have to say, so that they can make an informed decision when they take to the polls on 8th June.

Neil Darby from the Liberal Democrats will be starting the week, doing two sessions over lunchtime on Monday 15th May, this will be followed by Tina Rothery of the Green Party on Tuesday 16th May and Simon Platt, the UKIP candidate on Wednesday 17th May. The week will be rounded off with the Conservative candidate Kevin Beaty on Thursday and Mark Hendrick from the Labour Party on Friday!

We are sure it will make for an interesting week with some lively debates!
