Live in Lockdown: Equality & Diversity
As a College, we are constantly looking for ways to continue to engage, challenge and support our students remotely throughout their home learning journey. Our Live in Lockdown series has seen different department areas organise a range of extra curricula sessions to challenge and engage our students and compliment their class work. This has included guest speakers hosting sessions and workshops for our students, so far, we have seen offerings from the Performing Arts and Art and Design departments.
A further part of our Live in Lockdown series comes from our Equality and Diversity Team and is linked to LGBTQ+ History month.
LGBT+ History Month was initiated in the UK by Schools Out UK and first took place in February 2005. The intention of the event is to raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ people and combat prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community as well as educate on their history as a group.
Organised and delivered by our colleagues at UCLan, the event will run throughout the month of February and is open to anyone who is interested in joining. It will comprise of a range of live virtual online events such as screenings of LGBTQ+ films, like ‘Invisible Women: The Story of Two Forgotten LGBTQ Revolutionaries’, which will be having a live screening on 11th February from 5pm – 6.15pm. There will also be a range of webinars covering topics such as Hate Crime Awareness in an LGBTQ+ Context (Wednesday 24th February from 1pm – 2.30pm) and ‘In and out, on and off: LGBT+ online experiences’ with Dr Megan Todd on Wednesday 24 February from 4pm – 5pm.
