More honours awarded for Cardinal Newman Art students

This year, several students from Cardinal Newman College have been entered onto the ‘Drawn From Youth’ Exhibition organised by the Fylde Decorative and Fine Arts Society. The exhibition showcases work from Sixth Form Colleges in Blackpool, Preston and the Fylde, which have been submitted to the 2015 RBA (Royal Society of British Artists) Annual Exhibition.

Local students have won three RBA Awards over the last four years and this year, two students have been successful, including former Newman student Beth Kidd (St Michael’s, Chorley) with her portrait, ‘Brown-Haired Girl’. Beth will now have her work displayed at London’s Mall Galleries from 11th- 21st March 2015, an outstanding accomplishment.

In addition to congratulating Beth Kidd for winning one of the prestigious Mall Galleries places, Fylde DFAS also awarded three additional prizes to artists who have demonstrated the most original work whilst combining technical and artistic expertise. Newman student Teresa Amatiello (St Bede’s, Lytham) was one of the lucky recipients for her piece ‘Eleven Marbles’.

As well as winning a place at the Mall Galleries exhibition, Beth Kidd has also gained recognition for another of her artworks. ‘Gagged’ has been entered for a second judgement at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Well done to all our students who took part in the exhibition.
