Helping to Spread a Little Joy this Christmas

Things are going to be very different this festive season for everyone, but our College Chaplaincy team have not let that get in the way of spreading some joy in the community.

They will be collecting donations for two special causes. Firstly, they will be collecting food parcels to donate to Luv Preston, a local charity who provide support, including a food bank to the local community. Secondly, as we normally host a Christmas party for our local elderly residents, we were keen to ensure that they don’t miss out on feeling a part of the Newman community and getting into the festive spirit. That is why the Chaplaincy Team is organising Christmas in a Box so that we can provide a little festive treat for local elderly residents who live alone, in order to show them they are not truly alone and are cared for.

Therefore, we are collecting the following items any non-perishable food such as pasta, rice, marmalade, tinned fish, rice pudding, beans, tinned fruit, custard, soup, packet sauces, chocolates, biscuits, cereal, jam, tinned vegetables and crisps. As well as Christmas crackers, unused Christmas cards, toilet paper, unused wrapping paper, small gifts, toiletries such as shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste, cellophane, hats and gloves.

The deadline for donations is Thursday  3rd December. They will all then be left for 72 hours before been packed, left for another 72 hours after packing and then delivered in a socially distanced way to the relevant charity and our elderly recipients.

Donations can be dropped off at our Donation Isolation Room in BB09 (St Bede Building) or contact Anne Russell in Chaplaincy.

We hope you will help us to spread a little love and kindness this Christmas.
