German Exchange Comes to Cardinal Newman

Following on from the departure of our French friends, the Languages Department at Cardinal Newman are looking forward to welcoming our German exchange partners at the end of January.

Visiting from Merian Schule in Freiburg, Southwest Germany, 16 students and two teachers will be spending a week sampling the very best that the North West has to offer.

Arriving late on Monday 30th January, our German friends will be heading straight to their exchange partners homes for the night, before joining them at College for the day on Tuesday 31st January. They will start their first full day in the UK with a full English breakfast and a welcome from the Principal, before attending lessons with their new English friends.

On Wednesday the whole group will head over to Manchester for a fun packed day of exploring the North West’s largest city, taking in all of the main tourist attractions. On Thursday the German students will get the chance to visit the Lake District, spending the day in and around Ambleside, being able to explore the beautiful English countryside.

On Friday, they will get to visit Preston Town Hall before spending the afternoon exploring and shopping in Preston before enjoying a farewell meal all together. Saturday will see the German and English students all heading off together for a day in Liverpool which will include a trip on the Mersey Ferry, a tour of the city and of course some time visiting Liverpool One for a bit more shopping! Their last full day in the UK will be spent with their UK host families before heading home on Monday. Our German A Level students will be completing the return leg of the journey in March.
