Future Midwives
Students from our Health and Social Care course were given the chance to attend a ‘Midwifery Insight Day’ at Liverpool John Moores University. Ten students, who are all interested in pursuing a career in midwifery, travelled down to Liverpool for the day, which gave them a great opportunity to see what studying midwifery and being a midwife would entail.
The group completed a circuit of lots of mini demonstrations across all aspects of midwifery, presented by current midwifery students, ranging from hand washing and breast feeding to newborn resuscitation. The day ended with a demonstration of the interactive birthing mannequin, which allowed students to experience what a real life birthing situation might be like!
Places on midwifery degrees are extremely competitive, so they also had talks on the application process and how to be a success at interview, as well as a talk on student life.
All the students had a fantastic time and finished the day buzzing with enthusiasm. Thank you to Liverpool John Moores for their hospitality!
