Former Student Selected for Team GB
Former Newman student Freya Abrams has been selected to join the British Aerobic Gymnastics squad.
Freya, who is now in her first year studying Dance at UCLan, is the only senior gymnast to have been selected from the North of England to make the 2022 GB Performance Squad.
This is the first time she has been chosen to represent Team GB, after a year of successful events including the British Championships in September. She has now set her sights on representing her country at the Aerobic Gymnastics European and World Championships next year.
Freya joined Cardinal Newman in 2019, to study A-Level PE, and BTECs in Law and Dance, from All Hallows Catholic High School. She has been a gymnast from a very young age, before turning her focus to aerobic gymnastics at the age of 7. Freya has worked hard over the years, to balance her studies with her gymnastics, training for four hours at a time at least four times per week at LK Aerobic Gymnastics in Southport.
Now at UCLan, she is studying for a degree in Dance, Performance and Teaching. She said: “I love the aerobic discipline as it’s a combination of many skills including strength, fitness and flexibility. It’s a growing sport that I hope will one-day feature in the Olympics.”
