Former Student Designs Pieces for London Fashion Week

Former Textiles student Sarah Shaw, who is now in her second year at London College of Fashion, was one of five finalists to have her designs worn in the JD Williams 50 plus fashion show at London Fashion Week.

The industry project, which partnered the University students with JD Williams got them to explore the mind-set of female shoppers over the age of 50. The project was inspired by YouGov’s recent study which found that over half of British Women over 50 feel unrepresented in the media and lack body confidence. The second year fashion students helped to make London Fashion Week history, with every model on the catwalk aged 50 and over. In total, the models had a combined age of 700!

When she was first given the design brief, Sarah was unsure how to approach the project but after conducting market research, she started to enjoy the project. She said that once she began the project, she realised “it was really clear that older woman just love life and…that fashion doesn’t actually have an age limit.”

The event was reported in the Telegraph and the Daily Mail, with Sarah’s pieces being mentioned as one of the highlights of the event.
