Drawn from Youth – Prize Winner

Former Newman student Hannah Muir was awarded a prize at the seventh annual ‘Drawn from Youth’ exhibition, which is currently taking place in the Fylde Gallery. The exhibition which showcases work from students from across the Fylde, takes place between 11th March -20th April between 10am – 4pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am – 3.30pm on Sundays and is a chance for young local artists to showcase their work.

Hannah, who studied A Level Textiles and Media studies, as well as a BTEC in Business Studies, attended the exhibition opening with her parents and grandparents, where she was presented with her prize. Hannah’s work, a collection of garments which she had printed using a cynotype method, won her praise from the exhibitions curator, who was ‘very impressed’ with her piece.

A lot of the artwork on display has been put forward for a National art competition, with the winners being given the opportunity to display their work at the prestigious Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) Annual Exhibition held at the Mall Galleries in London. The competition is organised by the National Association of Decorative and Fine Art Societies in partnership with RBA.

The work on show is a mixture of drawings, paintings and photography to ceramics, textiles and 3-D work and is from students at schools and colleges across the area, including Cardinal Newman.

The Fylde Gallery is located on the mezzanine floor of Booths supermarket adjacent to the Café.
