Cardinal Newman Gym Grand Opening
Cardinal Newman College celebrated the grand opening of yet more new facilities at the weekend, as we opened our doors to the brand new gym for the first time on Saturday’s open day.
Based in the St Augustine Building, along with the College’s Sports’ and Activities Halls, it comprises a variety of top of the range Technogym equipment, including cardio, free weights and resistance machines in a fully air conditioned fitness facility.
The facility will be available for staff and students to use, with sports students in particular looking forward to the extra training advantage for the 2016-17 season. In addition to more traditional training methods like Olympic weightlifting bars, a power rack, treadmills, cross trainers, bikes and rowing machines, students can take advantage of the Technogym dual adjustable pulley system. This allows a wide range of sporting movements to be accurately replicated and trained for with added loads of up to 100kg to help improve specific sports performance.
The gym caters for all with our resistance machines having the option of fold-away seats for wheelchair users to access, ensuring that all levels of ability are catered for. Technogym also have an app, which students can download, so that they can scan each piece of equipment with their smartphone and view a video of how to correctly use it, as well as store their training progress in the cloud.
The gym comes as a great addition to the College’s state-of-the-art facilities, which in the last 12 months has seen the addition of the brand new St Francis Building, housing Maths and Sociology classrooms as well as a Mangobean Coffee Shop and a total transformation of the café area in the St Augustine Building.
