BTEC Art Student Claims Top Prize

A student from Cardinal Newman is celebrating after being chosen from almost 30 other entries as the winner of an art competition. The competition, run by local firm Taylor Patterson Financial, gave students a brief to create a piece of artwork that would be displayed in the offices of their Winckley Gardens premises. The brief was entitled “My Surroundings” with a focus on visual research of Preston city centre, including historical buildings, parks and urban themes.

Megan’s piece which was entitled Landscape/Cityscape was done using a mixture of Watercolour and pen. Megan said: “I was inspired by the traditional architecture and the heritage of Preston as well as the green spaces around the city. I focused on buildings such as The Harris Museum and The Old Law Courts because of their grand, ornate facades. My painting is about plants taking over the urban setting.”

Laura Forrest from Taylor Patterson came down to College to present Megan with a prize and to show her the work all framed and ready to put in pride of place on their office walls.
