Angela Hunt Legacy Award
‘Let us do good.’ That is the motto of St John Henry Newman, whom the College is named after and it is something that we strive to live up to. It is an ethos that permeates the whole College community and hopefully stays with staff and students long after they leave us. An excellent example of this can be seen through the Angela Hunt Legacy Award.
The Angela Hunt Legacy Award is two £5,000 awards, one for Fine Art and one for Textiles, which will be awarded to students who show outstanding promise and dedication in their field.
Angela Hunt was the Head of Art at Cardinal Newman from 2000 to 2006 and the Art Department thrived under her leadership.
Angela was a fiercely creative, powerfully energetic and relentlessly positive person. She set very high standards for her students, but working tirelessly to support them. Angela was a strong believer that education held the power to transform lives and this outlook was evident in the way Angela lived her life and measurable by the positive impact that had on those around her.
Sadly, Angela passed on the 5th November 2019, but true to her character she wanted to continue her good work to support Art students at Newman by establishing a Scholarship fund, to benefit two future Cardinal Newman students, in the field of Fine Art & Textiles. The recipients of this award would be two students who would never know her. It is so typical of Angela that, even in her absence, she continues to work her magic, lighting the path for others and working to transform lives.
Angela’s bequest of a Textile & Fine Art Scholarship, The Angela Hunt Legacy Award, is so very characteristic of what we, at Newman, came to know and love about her. What a force for good she was in life and how fitting her good work continues, in the form of this award.
Students who wish to apply for the scholarship must submit a formal application, which includes submitting a digital portfolio and must be specialists in the field of Fine Art or Textiles, either studying a degree in the above subjects or setting up their art business.
