WE ARE OPEN AS NORMAL TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY 30TH NOVEMBER)

Additional Sports Facilities for 2022

The College is about to begin work on yet more amazing facilities for our students to use, in the form of a Multi-Use Games Area or MUGA.

Set within the College’s beautiful grounds, the outdoor games area will include a fenced-off all-weather pitch with bleachers-style seating. Work will take place over the summer months and is planned to be completed in time for the return of our year 13 students and the new cohort of students joining us in September.

Work started on 16th June and will be a fantastic addition to our already excellent sports facilities. It will provide extra space for the sports teams and academies, as well as for the A-Level and BTEC Sport students, and additional social and recreation space for all students.

We hope that the space will also prove a helpful resource encouraging more students to be active, especially post-pandemic.

As a College, we are always looking for ways to improve the student experience and this includes looking for ways to improve facilities and our provision, which is what was the driving force behind the decision to create this new space. Known as a MUGA – Multi-Use Games Area, it will have a polymeric surface, which is a versatile surface that can be used for a variety of purposes.

Bleacher-style seating will be available for spectators and socialising, and the facilities will include netball posts, five-a-side football goals and basketball nets. We hope that the versatility of the space will allow a wide range of students to utilise the space for many different activities, other than sports, including curriculum use, Newman Active, social use, and tournaments and we will operate an open gate policy, meaning it will be available for ad hoc use when not already booked.

The surrounding area will still retain its lush greenery with the existing trees, as well as newly planted trees around the facilities.
