FAQs For Year 12 & 13

When will the College Close?

Cardinal Newman College will be closed from the end of the day on Thursday 19th March 2020.

How can I access my work from home?

All teaching and learning has moved online. This will be done through Microsoft Teams, Moodle and Office 365 and students are asked to follow their timetable as normal. Teachers will be setting work and ‘live’ lessons will be available where appropriate.

Students are also advised to regularly check their emails for updates from their teachers, as well as information from the helpdesk regarding how to access online lessons and resources.

When will College re-open?

Currently there is no confirmed date for re-opening schools and colleges. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow Government guidance. Please continue to check the College website for the latest updates.

Can I still talk to my teachers?

Yes. Teachers can be contacted via email. Staff email addresses are first initial and surname, followed by @cardinalnewman.ac.uk e.g. Joe Bloggs would be jbloggs@cardinalnewman.ac.uk

What about my exams?

All exams for 2020 have now been cancelled. Please click here for the latest up to date information from the Government regarding exams.

What about my bus pass – can I get a refund?

Please contact the Student Services Department on studentservicesstaff@cardinalnewman.ac.uk to discuss all issues relating to transport and travel passes.

FAQs for Year 11s

Will I still get a place at College if I don’t do my GCSEs?

Education Secretary Gavin Williams has said GCSE exams will not take place this academic year, however, students will still receive results in August. How GCSEs are to be assessed is still uncertain at this time.

Rest assured that during these uncertain times that as a College we are doing all we can to ensure minimal disruption to our students and prospective students. We will work with your schools and follow all available Government advice to ensure that you can continue your studies at Cardinal Newman.

I haven’t had my College interview yet – what can I do?

Don’t worry. We are planning to conduct all further interviews via telephone. If you have applied to the College, we will be in touch via email to confirm the details of your interview.

I haven’t applied to Newman yet, is it too late?

Our online application portal is still available on our website and you can submit your application here >> we will then be in touch to arrange a telephone interview with you.

What can I do to prepare for starting College?

Our first and most important bit of advice is to continue with your GCSE work for all subjects to ensure that you are up to date with all of your work and as prepared as you can be for starting College.
