The training lasts for one academic year and leads to the qualification of an Edge Hill University PGCE and QTS, and the opportunity to gain credits towards a Masters qualification. The qualification awarded is a secondary PGCE. But what is perhaps unique about the Newman Alliance is that one placement will be at Cardinal Newman College, meaning there will be enhanced 16-18 enrichment in comparison to most PGCE courses. The Newman Alliance is clear that this will enhance the experience of our trainees, whilst also increasing their employability across the different sectors.
During the academic year, trainees will typically spend four days a week on their first placement (September – January) with one a day dedicated to training provided by experts in the given field from Newman, the partner schools, Edge Hill University and other external organisations. Each afternoon, the trainees will receive subject-specific support and training from their subject leads at Newman or subject tutors at Edge Hill University.
From February until June the trainees will be based 5 days a week on their second placement.
The subjects on offer are:
– Business Studies
– Computer Science
– Religious Studies
