Cardinal Newman College Library is located between the St. Bede and St. Wilfrid buildings and offers a variety of resources to assist you with your studies, including books, journals and DVDs.
In addition to our wide range of fiction books, study materials and feature films, there are also digital cameras, camcorders, portable photo studios and MP3 players available for loan. A suite of 30 computers (including MACs) are provided for you to work on assignments, carry out research and check e-mails. All work can be saved to the college network or emailed directly to your course tutor. Access to Moodle is also available via the Library computers. Study tables are available in the Library for students to work individually or in groups. Although not a silent study area, the Library is a place for quiet study and not a social area; silent study space is available in other areas.
The Library is open during term time from 8am – 4.30pm (Monday – Friday) and during College holidays from 8.30am – 12.30pm (Monday – Friday) providing the Library Manager is there (look out for notices and emails towards the end of term).
Students may borrow up to 12 items on their record at any one time. Items are issued for the following loan periods:
Books – 3 weeks
Journals (back-copies only) – 1 week
Foreign Language/Psychology special collection DVDs – 1 week
Feature Film DVDs – Overnight
Equipment – loan period varies; please ask staff for details
Remember to renew your loans regularly – either call into the Library or email your name and T-Number to firstname.lastname@example.org
The CNC Library Moodle page offers a wide range of online resources that can be accessed 24/7. These include E-Books, E-Journals and newspapers, and useful website links. You will also find a range of useful ‘how-to’ guides on Moodle, including help with referencing, revision techniques and research skills. Students can also access the Library catalogue via the Moodle page where you can search for and reserve Library resources.
Printing, photocopying, and scanning facilities are available in the Library. There is also a small shop where students can purchase various items of stationery and some course textbooks (please ask staff for details).
You will receive a full Library induction at the start of year 12 and further Library workshops, where appropriate, for your course. Staff are happy to help with any enquiries you may have. Please ask in the Library if you need help with finding resources, referencing/research skills, accessing on-line resources or any other query you may have.
