ARTiculation Heat Winner!

Congratulations are in order for Newman student Isla Neilson, who came third in the ARTiculation competition in Manchester at the beginning of February.

Isla, who is in her second year at Cardinal Newman, studying A Levels in Fine Art, English Literature and Philosophy, as well as undertaking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), took part in the Roche Court Educational Trust’s annual ARTiculation competition on Thursday 4th February.

The ARTiculation initiative is designed to stimulate students’ interest and understanding of art while developing individual thinking, observation, research, language and presentation skills. ARTiculation workshops for 14 – 19 year olds are held throughout the year and an annual competition for sixth formers takes place in the spring.

Isla took part in one of nine regional heats, which took place at the Whitworth in Manchester, where Isla spoke about how art can reveal the magic of science.  Isla’s talk discussed the key current themes of environment, ecology, architecture and our responsibility. The judges, Dr. Jennifer Harris and Simon Periton said: “Isla was a very engaging and accomplished public speaker and we all greatly enjoyed her interesting and original talk.” They also commented on how well she explained her sensory interaction with the artwork.

Well done Isla!
