Q&A with MP Andy Burnham

Cardinal Newman played host to MP Andy Burnham in a Q&A with our students and a number of students from St Bede’s, Lytham and All Hallows.

The talk began with a great introductory speech from Andy about how it doesn’t matter what background you’re from, you can do any job you wish and make a difference to your country. A point that probably resonated with a number of students struggling to make decisions about their future careers at the moment; he himself started in humble beginnings in Liverpool and had to pave his own way into politics.

Following this the floor was opened up to the students to ask Andy any questions they had regarding politics. There was an array of insightful questions asked from where he stood on the recent Scottish referendum to his thoughts about the management of the NHS plus others topics including women in politics, euthanasia and the war in Iraq.

On behalf of all that attended the Q&A Cardinal Newman College would like thank Andy Burnham for giving up his time to come and speak to our students.
